If you are going on holiday to Italy in the very near future and are either doing a tour or thinking that you may want to investigate the area local to your destination then you may well have rented a car. If you have then you are in for a wild ride, to say the very least. That Italian blood is most definitely susceptible to road rage, as well as less than responsible driving at times! They are certainly passionate about their right to the road! However, aside from road rage when driving in Italy, you will also have to deal with a number of hazards.
Hazard number one is the moped. It seems that everyone and their dog (literally in some cases) rides a moped. In some cases, you will see a family of four on one single moped. Although they are legally bilges to wear hard hats, sometimes they do not, and they also have a tendency to appear out of nowhere. As such, when driving in Italy, you do have to be careful. Hazard number two is animals. This especially applies if you are in a more rural area like Sorrento. Dogs seem to lie on the road and will not move if a car is coming towards them. As such, you will have to go around them.
As with all car rental firms, you will have to pay for any bumps and scratches to your rental car so it is worth paying extra attention. Nobody else will look out for your rental so it is up to you to look after it as far as possible. A great place to start is driving on the right side of the road. If you stay within the driving speed limits and take your time then you might just get through the experience in one piece, but if you possibly can then you should use public transport. It is cheap and you will not face any charges for damage! Driving in Italy will not be the idyllic experience you imagine it to be though so do not say that you were not warned in advance!
